Mireille DIjks - Grid Paintings
Dutch-born visual artist Mireille Dijks was born in Enschede, The Netherlands, and lived primarily in Arnhem before moving to Canada in 2006. She currently lives and works in Vancouver, B.C., where she has established herself as a respected painter and mixed media artist. Her work has been exhibited throughout the Netherlands, Germany, and North America.

Working primarily in abstraction, Mireille creates atmospheric compositions that balance structure and fluidity through the use of subtle color fields, layered textures, and refined linear elements. Deeply inspired by her environment and everyday surroundings, she draws on a keen sensitivity to color, light, and pattern, translating these impressions into quiet, contemplative works that invite personal interpretation.
Influenced by Dutch artists of the De Stijl movement as well as minimalist artists such as Dan Flavin, Agnes Martin, and Mark Rothko, her practice harmonizes minimalism, geometric components, and textured layers of color. Moving between control and spontaneity, precision and openness, her paintings emphasize mood and experience over narrative. Rather than conveying a fixed story.

Mireille’s artistic practice is shaped by the places, memories, and everyday experiences that surround her. Moving between the energy of the city and the quiet presence of nature, her work reflects a personal search for balance between past and present. Through layers of color, texture, and expressive lines, she transforms fleeting moments, emotions, and impressions into abstract compositions that feel both intimate and familiar. Her paintings invite viewers into a contemplative space where memories, atmosphere, and emotion can surface freely through personal interpretation.
